Happening in Our Comunidad
We're proud to come together around a shared belief that in a country where immigrants thrive and democracy stays strong that everyone has a chance to rise.
To everyone using their voice, their time, and their talents to make that vision a reality: we see you, we appreciate you, and we're proud to stand alongside you.
Let's keep showing up for each other. ✊🎸

Today, Comunidad Garces joined @puentesdesalud and other fellow community organizations at Pennsylvania Hospital to share resources, exchange ideas, and build meaningful connections!
As lifelong learners, we recognize that some of the most valuable knowledge comes from the people and experiences around us. 🧡❤️
Our communities embody this spirit every day, sharing knowledge, listening to their neighbors, and helping families navigate healthcare resources with greater confidence.
By bringing together different perspectives, experiences, and expertise, we can better understand the needs of our communities and find new ways to support one another.
Thank you to @pennsyinternalmed for creating space for collaboration and community!
🧡❤️ Together, we build a healthier, more connected Philadelphia!🧡❤️

💙🧡 Sometimes, the smallest moments make the biggest difference.
At Comunidad Garces, our volunteers do so much more than teach English. They create spaces for connection, curiosity, laughter, and learning.
Moments like this remind us that education is about more than what happens in a classroom. It's about the relationships we build, the confidence we inspire, and the joy of learning together.
To our incredible volunteers: thank you for sharing your time, talents, and hearts with our community. You're helping make Comunidad Garces a place where everyone belongs.

However you say welcome, it means the same thing here. Comunidad Garces is an open door for every immigrant in our region. We offer English classes, free health care and neighbors who have walked the same road.
How do you say welcome? Tell us in the comments. 👇

We’ve quietly had something in the works for months that we are excited to share today. The Garces Foundation is now Comunidad Garces.
Comunidad in Spanish means community. It is the word our students and patients have used for this place for years. Today we made it official. Our new name honors the origins of this organization while also speaking to the essence of who we are at our core: an open door for all immigrants.
Thank you for being a part of this comunidad.
We love our immigrant community. They are an important part of the fabric that makes Philadelphia such a wonderful city.
At Comunidad Garces, we are committed to creating a welcoming community where immigrants can find support, opportunity, and the resources they need to thrive. For us, that means showing up every day and helping build a stronger, healthier Philadelphia for everyone.
For 14 years, immigrants from 26 countries, speaking 12 languages, have turned to us for English classes, healthcare, dental care, and workforce training. Our new name, Comunidad Garces, reflects the community we have grown to serve and the work we continue to do together.
Take a moment to show your support by making a donation at the link below. Every contribution helps us continue this work and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors.

Yesterday’s Community Health Day was powered by an incredible community of people who showed up to care. ❤️
We are deeply grateful to the physicians, dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, students, volunteers, staff, and partners who gave their time, expertise, and energy to welcome 45 new patients and provide essential medical and dental care in West Grove.
A special thank you to Laurel Dental of West Grove for opening their doors and partnering with us to bring Community Health Day to Chester County for the first time.
To everyone who volunteered, partnered with us, and helped make yesterday possible: thank you for believing that everyone deserves access to compassionate, high-quality care, regardless of insurance or immigration status.
We couldn’t do this without you. ❤️
Help keep the door open.
Recently, two men from Algeria walked through our doors at Bok. They spoke Arabic, and they had come to sign up for English classes. They found a place ready to welcome them. No insurance required. No questions about background or status.
Today we serve people from 26 countries and territories who speak 12 languages. We may have a new name, but our promise remains the same: an open door for all immigrants.
To sustain the people, programs and spaces that make this work possible, we're raising $10,000 by October 6. Every gift counts.

Feeling optimistic as we embark on a new partnership with Laurel Dental of West Grove! ❤️
Today, we were grateful to welcome 45 new patients to Community Health Day, connecting members of the West Grove community with free, essential medical and dental care, regardless of insurance or immigration status.
We’re excited about what this partnership means for expanding access to care and building lasting connections with the community in southern Chester County.
A meaningful first day, and just the beginning. ❤️🦷🩺 Laurel Dental of West Grove
It's National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, and we’re celebrating these resilient community members who keep showing up to learn, grow, and build new possibilities for themselves and their families. 📚❤️
In Philadelphia, access to adult education matters. For immigrants especially, learning English, building digital skills, and earning a high school equivalency credential can open doors to better jobs, greater independence, and fuller participation in their communities.
Through our IDIOMA program, adults learn English in person and online, build essential digital skills with access to Chromebooks, and receive one-on-one support to earn their GED in Spanish.
And we’re seeing the impact.
📈 In recent assessments, 100% of participating students improved their reading skills and 86% improved their spoken English.
💼 In some sessions, nearly half of students have reported getting a better job, earning a promotion, or receiving a raise.
💻 More than 230 learners have gained access to Chromebooks through our Digital Literacy program.
🎓 Our individualized Spanish-language GED program is helping adults achieve a milestone that can change what comes next for them and their families.
Adult education is about more than learning English or earning a credential. It’s about access, opportunity, confidence, and the ability to build the life you want.
Your support keeps these programs accessible to immigrant adults across the Philadelphia region.
❤️ Celebrate Adult Education Week by investing in our students. Donate today through the link in our bio.
PHYSICIANS NEEDED 🩺❤️
We have a priority volunteer need for PA-licensed physicians for our upcoming Community Health Day in West Grove. @laureldentalofwg
📅 Saturday, September 19
⏰ 8:00 AM–3:00 PM
📍 Laurel Dental of West Grove
Our Community Health Days provide free, accessible medical and dental care to immigrant families in our community, and volunteer physicians make this work possible.
Spanish-speaking physicians are especially needed, but bilingual ability is not required. Spanish-speaking staff and interpreters will be available to assist.
Interested in volunteering or know a physician who might be? Please share this post or contact jillian@garcesfoundation.org.

Today, our IDIOMA classroom got a little louder when Philadelphia’s own Adam Weiner of @lowcutconnie stopped by to spend time with our students, listen to their stories, and talk about music, community, and what it means to keep going.
Naturally, Teacher Doug gave Adam some homework before he left: write a song about my students. 📝🎹
He won’t have to look far for inspiration. Our students build new lives in a new language, work, raise families, study at night, start businesses, earn diplomas, and keep showing up for one another.
Thank you, Adam, for showing up, listening, and becoming part of the classroom today. We’ll be checking that homework. ❤️
We’re very excited to share that our Community Health Day service is expanding!
On September 19, we’ll be at our new space at Laurel Dental in West Grove, bringing our services to even more members of our community.
A special thank you to Mary Jo and the team at @laureldentalofwg for partnering with us! Mary Jo is a former volunteer with the Garces Foundation Community Health Day and now has a practice of her own. We’re so excited to welcome her back in a new way and continue growing this important work together.
If you are a healthcare provider and would like to volunteer at our Community Health Day event, visit the link in our bio to learn how.
We’ll see you in West Grove on September 19! ✨
One of our incredible volunteer English teachers is also a soccer coach, and it turns out he shares another language with his students: a love of fútbol. Here he is with two of his English students, proving that the relationships built through Comunidad Garces extend far beyond a lesson plan.
Our volunteer teachers don’t just help students strengthen their English. They create spaces for connection, friendship, confidence, and belonging. And sometimes, a little friendly rivalry. 😉⚽️
Whether you’re cheering for América, Chivas, or another team entirely, there’s always room for you in our comunidad. Click the link in our bio for more info.
Thank you to Carlos Quezada, who was among our organization’s very first volunteers nearly a decade ago. This summer, Carlos returned to serve as an ESL teacher, sharing his creativity, compassion, and commitment with our adult learners. Volunteers like Carlos remind us that support for our mission often comes full circle, with people returning over the years to invest in the strength, resilience, and potential of our immigrant community.

A high school diploma or GED can mean nearly $10,000 more in median earnings each year. But sometimes, it can open the door to something even bigger.
Deyanira and Olivia were the first two graduates of our 1:1 Spanish-language GED tutoring program, and both are showing us just how far that opportunity can travel.
Before coming to the United States, Deyanira practiced dentistry for five years in the Dominican Republic. After earning her GED, she is now studying for her dental board exams as she works toward entering a two-year dental program in the U.S. And she is already looking for ways to bring her experience back to her community: Deyanira plans to volunteer at upcoming Garces Foundation Community Health Day events. 🦷💙
And if you know the Garces Foundation, you already know Olivia! After participating in our English classes and becoming one of our first GED graduates, Olivia joined our team as our full-time Case Manager. Today, her remarkable ability to build community and earn trust helps connect families with healthcare, education, food assistance, legal resources, employment support, and other services throughout the Philadelphia region.
That is what your support can make possible. A GED is one milestone, but the opportunities that follow can ripple outward, from one student to a profession, a family, and an entire community.
Help us sustain 1:1 GED tutoring for the next Deyanira and Olivia. Make a donation today through the link in our bio.

Stitch by stitch, community grows. 🧶❤️
Our summertime community-led crochet group is more than a place to learn a new skill—it’s a space where families come together to share traditions, build friendships, and support one another across generations.
Each week we gather to create with our hands while strengthening the connections that help our community thrive. From first stitches to finished projects, every session is filled with laughter, learning, and the joy of creating something together.
At the Garces Foundation, we believe that belonging begins with opportunities to connect. Thank you to the community members who make this group possible by sharing their time, talent, and love with others. ❤️

Yesterday, our amazing case manager, Olivia Ponce, was invited to present at the Consulate of Mexico in Philadelphia about educational opportunities available to our community through the Garces Foundation.
As our full-time Case Manager and the second graduate of the Garces Foundation's GED program, Olivia shared her own journey to earning a Pennsylvania GED diploma and how that experience inspires her work supporting others every day.
Through our GED in Spanish program, students receive individualized, one-on-one instructional support to help them prepare for the exam, overcome obstacles, and achieve a milestone that can open new doors for themselves and their families. Students who earn their Pennsylvania GED diploma may qualify for full scholarships to attend Community College of Philadelphia, creating an affordable pathway to higher education, career advancement, and long-term economic stability.
We're grateful to the Consulate of Mexico in Philadelphia for creating space to connect with families and share the educational opportunities available in our community, and we're grateful to Olivia for standing before the audience as a powerful example of what's possible.

Welcome to the Summer Session of IDIOMA! ☀️📚
Every new session marks the beginning of new opportunities—not just to learn English, earn a GED, or build digital skills, but to create pathways toward greater economic stability.
At the Garces Foundation, we believe workforce development is about more than preparing someone for a job. It's about empowering immigrant workers to strengthen their language skills, pursue career advancement, and build brighter futures for themselves and their families through education, support services, and meaningful community connections.
That's exactly what begins in our classrooms each week.
To our students: thank you for showing up with determination, courage, and a commitment to your goals.
To our teachers, volunteers, partners, and donors: thank you for making these opportunities possible.
Together, we're building a stronger workforce, stronger families, and a stronger Philadelphia.
